Pelham Sloane shows off 17-inch touchscreen media PC

http://engadget.com/
Pelham Sloane is making the rounds with its new 17-inch touchscreen PC, the successor to the company's earlier 15-inch model. And from the looks of things, the specs of the new model take a big bump up, including the addition of Windows XP Media Center Edition as the standard OS (XP Pro, which was standard on the earlier model, is still available as an option), along with a Pentium M at up to 2.26 GHz, hard drive capacities of up to 500GB, VGA and component output, and a PCI-based tuner. Given that this box will run for up to $3,000, we wish they'd included DVI output so we'd have more flexibility when using this as a touchscreen base for a larger display. Nevertheless, this could be a decent media PC solution for small rooms, or even a good desktop option for a home office.

Sony SMU-WM10 wireless mouse reinvents the hand

http://engadget.com/
There's a reason most modern computer mice are sort of oval in shape: even the least ergonomic pay some respect to the curvature of the human hand (notable exceptions include some Apple mice, such as the boxy original Mac mouse, and the round and small original iMac mouse -- not to mention most portable mice from just about every manufacturer). So, while Sony's new rectangular SMU-WM10 wireless mouse might look really sleek, we just can't imagine using it is a very comfortable experience. Of course, at $50, it doesn't break the bank, so if you're into style and self-inflicted injuries, go ahead and order one, in red, black or white.

Spam Cube hardware filter reviewed

http://www.engadget.com/
It's hard to get a good sense of a pre-release product whose full benefits can only be derived from widespread adoption, so David Pogue's experience with the Spam Cube should definitely not be considered indicative of how this device will perform once thousands of users are helping to tweak its filters. Still, some of the problems that Pogue identifies in this hardware spam solution will not improve even when adoption reaches critical mass, such as its incompatibility with non-Outlook email programs and unnecessary lack of portability (that big box is almost all air). Benefits of the Cube include no required software that hijacks processor cycles or subscription fees to keep your definitions up to date, and that user feedback feature which will help the network-based detection program keep abreast of the latest spammer tricks -- although out-of-the-box, Pogue found that the device flagged an unacceptable number of legit messages as spam. All in all, the $150 Cube is presented as be a great concept that may be getting released before it's completely polished, although we'll wait for another review after the general release and promised firmware upgrade before passing final judgement..

Microsoft SideShow: not just for laptops anymore

http://engadget.com/
As stoked as we are about getting SideShow for our laptops -- even despite the fact that it'll add a
little extra girth to our lappies' bodies -- when we found out from CE Pro that at the Media Center Boot Camp at HEX this week, Microsoft showed off a SideShow dev kit for Media Center remotes (and any other small device you might want to have a screen), well, that about did us in. Microsoft expects SideShow-enabled Media Center remotes, which have user-installable "gadgets" (small XML-driven widgets for different purposes), should be available for about $150-$200. That ain't too bad, but unfortunately they're not bundling touchscreen support, so you're gonna have to find another smart remote solution if that's what you're looking for in your next media controller.

UMD about to be ditched by Wal-Mart?

http://engadget.com/
More bad news for Sony's UMD format: after word last month that several studios were cutting back on UMD releases or dropping support for the format entirely, it now looks like the discs are about to lose coveted shelf space in America's largest retailer. According to reports, Wal-Mart is expected to stop selling UMDs, though the company has declined to comment on the rumors. Nevertheless, a spot-check of a Wal-Mart store by journos at the Hollywood Reporter found the discs to be in scant supply, with just a handful stacked haphazardly among the PSPs. Of course, this may not mean the end for the UMD format; Wal-Mart certainly isn't the only place to buy them. However, as it gets easier (and cheaper) to use tools like the Neuros Recorder to get flicks onto the PSP, the already meager demand for films on UMD is likely to continue to dwindle, further discouraging retailers and studios. But, hey, that means you should be able to pick up remaining inventory for next to nothing on eBay and from liquidators as stores race to clear out stock. That may not be good news for Sony, but it could be a short-term boon for video-hungry PSP owners.

IGN reveals new Revolution tech specs

http://joystiq.com/
IGN's Matt Casamassina has gotten his hands on the most recent technical specs for the Nintendo Revolution, compiled from a few "extremely reliable" sources. Here is what developers will working with:
  • The "Broadway" CPU: 729MHz (approximately the same speed as the original Xbox)
  • The "Hollywood" GPU: 243MHz (again, very close to the power of the original Xbox) with 3MBs of texture memory
  • RAM: 88MBs, which breaks down to 24MBs of main 1T-SRAM and 64MBs of "external" 1T-SRAM, which one developer notes "can be accessed as quickly as the main RAM, which is nice." The original Xbox, in continuing with teh comparison, had 64MBs of total RAM.
These numbers are not official, but they do make sense with what Nintendo has been saying all along that their focus was more on innovation than pushing the graphical limits--a philosophy which has worked with the Nintendo DS to great success. A slightly more powerful Xbox is still an major improvement from the GameCube, but technically inferior to both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Not to incite fanboyism, but do you still feel this is the right move for Nintendo?

A night vision spy car for your little James Bond in training

http://engadget.com/
Now you can buy one off the shelf -- or at least, will be able to buy one this holiday season -- for somewhere between $100 and $160. The Spy Video Car, made by Wild Planet, includes an adjustable top-mounted video camera that transmits images wirelessly to a head mounted display. Wild Planet is also introducing some Digital Spy Camera sunglasses and an Alarm Kit to round out your little spy's arsenal, or to buffer your own home security. So yes, Jimmy can have now have his own spy car with all the trimmings, but let's hold off on the martinis for now, mmkay?

Apple quietly bumps 30-inch Cinema Display specs

http://engadget.com/
n an another sterling example of Apple-related PR oddities, it appears they have recently made a minor bump in the specs of their 30-inch Cinema Displays -- without bothering to tell anyone about it. The revised LCD now more closely mirrors the specs of Dell's 3007WFP, with 400 cd/m2 brightness and a 700:1 contrast ratio, as opposed to the former 270 cd/m2 and 400:1 specs. The price remains the same, at the ever-astronomical $2500, but at least you're getting a little bit more bang for you buck. This spec bump comes not even a week after the display barely edged out the 3007WFP in a heated battle, we'd love to see how it fares now

Vice City Stories For The PSP?

Gamebrink.com
ooks like several sources are claiming that “Vice City Stories” might very well be the next Rockstar GTA release for the PSP. It seems applications have been filed with the US Patent Office for the “Vice City Stories” name but Rockstar has yet to confirm the rumor. Check out Gamebrink.com for more info on this story. I for one was actually hoping for an original GTA release for the PSP rather than just a re-make, but none the less I'm sure it will be a great title if the rumor is true...

Belkin Flip USB KVM switch

http://engadget.com/
In a surprising turn of events, Belkin has decided not to style their new Flip USB KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch after a Mac mini, as seems to be the current trend. Instead, the Flip features a little LED-sporting, puck-shaped switching button to signify which computer you're controlling. Sadly the Flip doesn't break past the usual VGA capabilities of its predecessors, so you won't be taking advantage of those DVI ports that are fairly common these days. At least the price is right; the Belkin Flip should cost around $60 and is due for shelves this April.

Bluetooth SIG chooses sides for UWB-based Bluetooth successor

http://engadget.com/
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group, in search of a standard for its next version of Bluetooth, had already expressed its intention to pick between the quarreling UWB factions: WiMedia Alliance and the UWB Forum. Looks like WiMedia ended up fitting the bill best for bringing high speeds to Bluetooth connections, and it's expected that most UWB manufacturers will follow suit. Now the respective tech teams just need to sit down and hammer out the spec, which Bluetooth SIG estimates will take about a year, with prototype chips becoming available around Q2 2007. There are some distinct technological hurdles that must be jumped to get the 480mbps UWB interoperable with the 2.1mbps Bluetooth connections, including the fact that UWB operates in the unlicensed spectrum above 6GHz, while Bluetooth hangs out at 2.4GHz. Even with those problems in front of them, Bluetooth SIG is confident that UWB fits the low power consumption requirements of Bluetooth, and, of course, it's hard to scoff at the promised data rates.

Dell planning 27-inch 2707WFP?

http://engadget.com/

We have no confirmation on this, and don't expect any in the near future, but according to DailyTech, Dell is in the process of squeezing a new display into their lineup, right between the 24-inch 2407WFP and 30-inch 3007WFP (pictured above). The 27-inch display, according to DailyTech, will be called -- wait for it -- the 2707WFP, and will reportedly be built around Samsung's LTM270M1panel, which has a 1900x1200 resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio and 90-degree viewing angle. We're not sure what the pricing or timing will be on this, though we suspect that if Dell really is planning on rolling it out, the company will want to give the 2407WFP a bit of a head start. After all, the price difference between the two may not be too extreme, and if this one's just around the corner, it could just undermine sales of the 24-incher, which is expected to go for about $1,000.

PSP keyboard and cellphone attachments on USPTO

http://engadget.com/
So if you recall, way back at E3 2004 when Sony was showing off the PlayStation Portable for the first time in the US, they were also generating some buzz with translucent keyboard and cellphone attachments. Of course, those never materialized -- but they have in fact finally shown up online, albeit at the USPTO. In two filings dated November 10, 2004 (and made public in late February 2006 and only three days ago, respectively), a gaggle of Sony designers submitted applications for both "ornamental design[s]" for a keyboard and phone add-on for the PSP -- and trust us, the patent filings couldn't have been much less verbose. So will we ever see these things get manufactured and released? Eh, even though Sony's launched some unexpected PSP accessories recently, we'd assume the phone attachment won't ever take off. However, Izumi Kawanishi has made it no secret that he wants email on the PSP, and a keyboard would be quite a nicety if that's in the cards.

Revolution to emulate Genesis and TurboGrafx

http://engadget.com/
Well, as predicted, Iwata-san didn't announce a price, date, or even officially name the Revolution at his keynote speech at GDC this year, but they did announce one very interesting tidbit. Remember how the Revolution is going to play games from and emulate every Nintendo home console to date, starting with the NES? Well, that's not all: they're also including emulation for the Sega Genesis and Turbo Grafx. Seriously, who would have thought back in the 80s such bitter rivals would eventually become so subsumed to the N as to become a retro software package? So if y'all been missing Bonk or Sonic and haven't been up to the eBay hunt (or garage sale circuit) to get your fix, just hold out. Who knows, hold out long enough and maybe, just maybe, we'll get some Saturn, 3DO, and Jaguar support, too.

Moto says Q coming in April

http://engadget.com/
Waiting in vain for Motorola to release the Q? Your wait may finally be over, at least if a promotional page on a Motorola web site is accurate. The glossy Q promo, which apparently isn't entirely new, has been updated to state that the long-awaited smartphone will be "Available April 2006." Which, of course, sounds about right to us. Of course, it doesn't say when in April. Or which carriers are onboard (other than Verizon, of course). One thing's certain, though: unless this turns out to be an early April Fools prank, we can bet both this site and Verizon's online store are going to get a lot of extra traffic next month. Start exercising those F5 fingers, and we'll see you in a week!

GDC 06: Region-free PS3

http://www.ign.com/
In a QA session following the platform keynote address at GDC 2006 this morning, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Phil Harrison confirmed what was heavily demanded for import gamers all over the world and yet previously thought unthinkable for a major corporation: the PS3 will be region-free for gaming.
The move was not unexpected, as SCE had previously mentioned considering the possibility of opening up the region structure for PS3 games recently (the newly-released PSP system has but does not use a region code system for games, but that's more a standard for portable games than a new development for region-free gaming.) The system is, amongst other things, hoped to help combat piracy - many import fans "chip" their consoles with region-free mod chips to play import games, and while that desire has some legitimacy, it also opens the doors for pirates to release illegal copies of games. (Funnily enough, it's most often easier to run illegal games on a console than it is to run legit games from other countries due to the way most mod chips work, leading to a slippery slope for importers hoping to stay legit but finding the road difficult to maneuver.) Region-free gaming also allows game publishers to release games across the globe simultaneously, either through e-distribution or on disc. The capacity of Blu-Ray had previously been mentioned to allow for multiple languages of a game to be encoded onto the same massive-capacity disc. The one caveat of this new region-free structure is that games made for specific regions' electrical and TV standards may have problems on your TV set. A PAL PS3 game, for instance, will have difficulty running on an NTSC TV, unless the developers have thought ahead and planned for that issue. It is currently unknown how the PS3 will cope with this problem (whether there will be a warning when you run an import about possible TV incompatibility, or if possibly there might be a no-play screen for incompatible games depending on your PS3's TV settings.) Luckily, modern HDTV standards go a long way towards making that problem moot. Also, games made in other countries will naturally only have the text and dialog it is programmed with, so don't put your pre-orders down so fast on all of those Japanese RPGs and Dragon Ball if you don't know a lick of kanji, because English will only be in if the developers have planned for it. (It's unknown if there will be any type of "patching" system for multi-language releases, although that might be possible on supported games post-release now that the PS3 is carrying its massive HDD and flash memory support.)We'll have more details on how this impacts publishers and importers as soon as we know more about SCE's plans for region-free PS3 gaming.

Dell buying Alienware for undisclosed price

http://engadget.com/
Despite earlier denials (and despite pricing its own super-deluxe gaming PC just this morning), Dell has announced that it will buy Alienware, the Miami-based maker of specialty high-end gaming and media rigs. Speculation about the partnership began a few weeks ago, when the CEO of Alienware rival VoodooPC blogged that a deal was in the works, but the rumors were denied by Dell and Alienware. According to Michael Dell, Alienware will continue to be managed by its current executive team as "a standalone unit." However, the deal is still likely to frustrate those who consider Dell a commodity manufacturer, rather than a high-end specialist -- though it's sure to please AMD fans, given that Dell has long been an Intel-only shop, and Alienware has a broad line of AMD-based products.

like stealing candy

http://espn.go.com/
Memphis is home to Elvis and a Sweet 16 mystery team. Dissed as a No. 1 seed ripe for a first-round upset, Memphis now faces a 13-seed on a mid-major trip toward Indy that has Pat Forde befuddled.

The Memphis mystery was supposed to be solved this week. Instead, it might continue all the way to Indianapolis.
This was supposed to be the time we see what the No. 1 seed in the Oakland Regional is made of. The NCAA Tournament was going to be the place where the talented Tigers crawled out of their Conference USA cocoon, faced a few opponents from the power conferences and showed whether they lost their edge by spending two months in Mid-Major Land.
That moment of truth remains on hold for at least one more game. Maybe two.
Memphis opened the tourney with No. 16 seed Oral Roberts of the Mid-Continent Conference. Then came No. 9 Bucknell of the Patriot League. Next up is No. 13 Bradley of the Missouri Valley Conference. If the Tigers beat the Braves on Thursday and draw No. 3 Gonzaga (West Coast Conference) Saturday, they could get to the Final Four without playing a single opponent from a BCS league.
That's happened before. Michigan State did it in 2001, getting the ultimate Final Four walkover by playing No. 16 Alabama State, No. 9 Fresno State, No. 12 Gonzaga and No. 11 Temple. Duke did it in 1999, playing No. 16 Florida A&M, No. 9 Tulsa, No. 12 Southwest Missouri State and No. 6 Temple.
But the Spartans and Blue Devils came out of the Big Ten and ACC sausage grinders, respectively. Memphis came out of a league ranked 13th in the RPI, one in which two-thirds of the membership ranked 190th or lower.
Ronald Martinez/Getty Images
Backup point guard Andre Allen has had a big part in the Tigers' early-round success.
Memphis hasn't played a BCS opponent since Tennessee in mid-January -- and, not coincidentally, it hasn't played an RPI top-30 opponent since then, either. Memphis hasn't played a BCS opponent away from its home court since mid-December.
Of course, this is an especially dangerous year to discredit a tournament path through non-BCS competition. Just ask Billy Packer how silly you can look for bashing the little guys.
There are five schools from outside the big six leagues in this Sweet 16, the most since 1993. The Missouri Valley and Colonial Athletic Association have validated their six bids. Memphis and Gonzaga cannot be discounted as national title threats, even as they celebrate their inclusion with the Dukes and Connecticuts.
"Enjoy it," coach John Calipari told his constituency. "Take a breath, kick back and enjoy. Because this doesn't happen every year at Memphis. It happens at Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina and those other programs. It doesn't happen at Memphis."
Actually, it isn't even happening at Kentucky or North Carolina this year -- another fact that is not lost on the guys from C-USA.
"Little ol' Memphis," chirped backup Tigers point guard Andre Allen, upon his team's first Sweet 16 since 1995.
In truth, there isn't much little about this Memphis team. Its talent is on par with Connecticut, Duke and Texas as the best in the land, with NBA potential at every position. Its nonconference schedule was big-time, including victories over UCLA, Gonzaga, Alabama, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Tennessee and Cincinnati and losses to Duke and Texas.
The only quibble with the Tigers is their conference, which hasn't provided many serious tests -- especially away from the friendly environs of the FedEx Forum. The only RPI top-40 opponent they have played in a road/neutral setting since the calendar flipped to 2006 is UAB -- and they lost that game.
UAB finished the regular season No. 32 in the RPI. Bradley was No. 33.
The Braves scuttled what many figured would be Memphis' first big test of this tournament, against either Big 12 tournament champion Kansas or Big East toughie Pittsburgh. Bradley showed its chops and earned its props by eliminating both.
That's the strongest opening-weekend statement anyone has made in this tournament, but history tells us Bradley's run is done. Since the tourney expanded to 64 teams in 1985, no team seeded 13th or lower has ever made a regional final.
Bradley's vulnerability has Memphians peeking ahead at the regional finals, and a potential rematch with either the Zags or Bruins. The players, though, seem focused.
"If we can beat Bradley, then we'll worry about the next game," Allen warned.
A matchup with Gonzaga would keep Memphis' non-BCS run intact, and it would offer some compelling story lines.
Like the Tigers, Gonzaga proved itself in a rigorous preconference schedule, then slipped off to dominate a soft league. The Zags haven't played an RPI top-30 team since losing at Memphis on Dec. 23.
In that game, Zags star Adam Morrison shredded the Tigers for 34 points, but Calipari switched 6-foot-9 freshman Shawne Williams onto him midway through the second half, collapsed the defense on Morrison in the low post and held him scoreless over the final 9 minutes and 31 seconds as the Tigers pulled away.
Calipari told Gonzaga coach Mark Few after the game, "Let's hope we're playing again in April." Late March might have to do.
Anarchists and non-elitists could enjoy a regional final throwdown between two schools from outside the big six leagues. It would be the first of its kind since 1992, when Cincinnati beat Memphis in a matchup of what were then two Great Midwest members.
Cincinnati won that game in a blowout, and took a whole lot of questions about its Final Four worthiness with it to Minneapolis. Memphis could face the same this year if its path to Indy runs through the mid-major back roads.

next psp

Gizmodo.com
Ain’t It Cool News seems to have confirmed rumors that Sony will be releasing an updated PSP by the end of this year. Details are light and there is no corroboration yet, but the redesigned PSP2 will reportedly be lighter, thinner, have a camera and 4Gb of memory.

psp gets new updates

IGN.com
Mr. PlayStation, Ken Kutaragi, opened Tokyo's 2006 PlayStation Business Briefing with some interesting news today. Highlighted below are several points that the SCE president touched on:

• The PSP userbase is 96% male and Sony views this as a problem. Ideally, the company would like more women to play PSP and Sony looks to widen the system's appeal to various demographics.

• The PSP will get its own version of the EyeToy in September and the peripheral will feature motion-tracking games like EyeToy Play, as well as add functions such as video chat. (Curiously, though, no confirmation on a still photo snap function like on cellphones.) The camera is sliver and it attaches to the USB port.

• Starting this fall, the PSP will receive some key new features. Video and voice-over-IP features will launch in October in "motion jpg" format, allowing PSP owners to use their PSPs as a virtual phone and even, with that new EyeToy, a portable video phone.

• The PSP will also include a GPS receiver with an update rate of once every second with a 40-second fix time from a cold start. Minna no Golf (Hot Shots Golf) will be one of the first games supported. Interestingly enough, SCE lists that GPS support is already out there, that the "Library has already released partially" ... what titles could those be?

• Macromedia Flash will be included with a spring Network update, along with improved RSS support for playback and saving of net-broadcast radio and video.

What other updates will the 2006 Business Briefing bring for PSP, PS2, and PS3 fans? Check back with us again in the next couple of hours to find out.

playstation 3 delay

http://www.engadget.com/
Seems like the PlayStation 3 meme has further, um, credible developments in the Blu-ray thorn in Sony's side. According to GamesIndustry, apparently Koei head Kiyoshi Komatsu told Japanese press of a yet-unannounced Sony press event in Tokyo on the 15th of this month, and confirmed "some details about the PlayStation 3 might be announced there." (Which, of course, GI followed up with some independent sources corroborating the story.) And if we're to further believe a Chinese technology site by the name of Mydrivers, the PS3 won't begin manufacture until June of this year, as apparently an unnamed COMPEQ (a Taiwanese firm who did circuit boards for the PSP) employee leaked that month as the date PS3 parts begin fab. So, who're you gonna believe (if anyone)?

mp3 pebble

this little mp3 player measures 47x32x13mm and weights 20g.i would buy this little mp3 player because its nice and small and not heavy like the other mp3s,this little mp3 has fm tuner and fm recorder.this little mp3 has two versions one has 512mb and the other one has 1gb.one gb is alot for a little mp3 like this.

the pope has his own ipod

the pope has just gottoen his own ipod nano engraved with "To His Holiness, Benedict XVI"i wonder what he will have on his playlist.imagine he has some hip-hop or reggaeton imagine him breakin dancing and raping lol.

warriors the game

i just got this game and i have to say its pretty cool because you could start beating up people and robing store and all that kind of stuff. What i really like about it is that the missions arent boring unlike gta you dont have to be in a hurry during a mission and theirs no boundrys.one of my favorite missions so far is when they go to riverside and their was the black out because every one is in the street fighting, flipping cars over, beating up cops, and robing stores i like this game 100 times better then gta.

the knicks

what is going on with the knicks they are one of the worst team in the nba.i thought that they would get a little better having steve francis in the team but know i see that they still losing.its like they have a curse.I dont think they have bad players in their team i just think that they get lazy or somthing when the game is ending because in most of the games they are leading and they lose the lead in the 4th quarter.
