Another Batch of Possible 3.0 Images

PSPmagazines.com

The last set of rumoured PSP 3.0 pictures looked rather dubious, but the newest batch courtesy of Katjana from YourPSP.com forums appear quite real. So what's new? Well, just a few things...

• Sony Mail - An email client for the PSP?
• SonyPaint - Doodling with your analogue nub, surely.
• Sony Organiser - Sounding more like a PDA all the time... useful!
• AlarmClock - Get your ass out of bed.
• Writepad - For taking notes, we assume.
• Console Security - Safeguard your PSP Mail, Organiser and more.
• Connect to MusicStore - iTunes-like music download service?
• PS3 Hard Disc - Wireless connectivity with the PS3!

Pantech parades around seven new concept phones

engadget.com
The concept phone beat always kind of amuses us, probably since a lot of the stuff we see people coming up with as their wildest phone fantasies aren't too far off from reality for some Asian phone manufacturers. Thus, Panetch concept phones may seem a little recursive for a company whose handsets are often so advanced, but here's what they got: Cancro, a 5G iPod like DMB handset; Echo, a digital camera like phone; Libro, a Bluetooth tilt & slider with DMB; Muse (right), a "sporty" spinner; My Music, a, um, musicphone; Phone Theater, a slider with a tube speaker dock; and our favorite, the Transformer (upper left), a wide LCD TV / gamephone with a kickstand.

The Cormorant -- just another robotic swimming spy drone for the Navy

This new robotic-submarine-spy-plane from Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works is just a concept for now, but it's one badass concept if you ask us, so we thought we'd share. The Cormorant is designed to be launched from the large missile tubes on subs that were originally designed for nuclear weapons. Once ejected, the robotic plane floats to the surface then fires up its rockets to fly its mission, be it a surgical missile strike or surveillance. After completion, the plane returns to the sea and is found by a robotic underwater vehicle which brings the drone back to the sub. DARPA is currently funding tests of a few of the systems proposed for the Cormant, and will then decide whether to build a prototype -- we just hope they'll be accepting orders from illegal side organizations run by popular gadget news sites.

AOpen shows next-gen mini PC

Remember AOpen? The company made headlines earlier this year with its mini PC, a small form factor box that critics found to be a little too similar to the Mac mini. Well, AOpen has redesigned the mini PC (or actually designed it for the first time, if you believe the first one was a direct Mac rip), and will be showing off the new version at CeBIT. The new version is apparently even more diminutive than its predecessor, with a total weight of about 5 pounds and measuring just 6x6-inches. It's expected to include support for WiFi, Bluetooth, IR, and will be able to run a number of Intel processors, including Core Duo.

Microsoft's Origiami project

So today Microsoft officially flipped the switch on the buzz machine for their Origami Project -- an atypical viral marketing manuveur for a company whose products are usually known about years ahead of time. Scoble says its a device, the Internet's lighting up with rumors -- is it the Xbox portable? Well, we dunno, but as usual got our hands on some pictures. And as usual we can't guarantee they're the real deal, though we are pretty confident in their source. So, let's go over it: these were sent to us detailing it as a Microsoft portable media player, which wouldn't be too far off from what Jobs and BusinessWeek both prophesied Microsoft doing (despite being pretty broadly denied from within).

Now, here's the tricky part with these pictures -- what's with the keyboard and stylus? Because the last time we checked, their Portable Media Center (PMC) OS didn't have (known) support for touchscreen and keyboard input. So is this some new portable OS platform running on CE.net? Or perhaps it's just a fat little Pocket PC device with some media software? Or something totally different -- could Microsoft beat Apple to the punch with the first serious touchscreen portable media device? Or maybe, just maybe, it's that ultramobile lifestyle PC Microsoft was talking about recently. Kinda seems like no matter what the answer, we're all gonna be pretty surprised (for better or worse) come announcement day, March 2nd, being that Microsoft's "not in the hardware biz." (No, peripherals don't count.) But hell, we can't even tell you for sure if these photos are legit, so here we are.

P.S. There's one thing we are indeed fairly sure about: that it's not that prototype "Origami" device announced by National Semi in 2001. Seriously, c'mon, a device from 5 years ago is what Microsoft's got Scoble buzzing about? Bigger pics of this Origami after the break.

apple and nokia build n80i itunes phone!with frontrow

Here's a little public service announcement for all the creative types out there bent on bringing the blogosphere to its knees with a cleverly faked Apple "leak": don't forget to spell check. If you're going to make a fake Apple ad, at least proofread it first, and make sure the font is right. Correct product names always help ("Front Row," not "Frontrow"), but we don't want to be pushy. We know it's tough, since you'd rather just be focusing on those leet Photoshoppin' skills of yours, but we're only trying to help.

nokia 7380 reviewed

The good folks over at MobileBurn have put Nokia's slender 7380 to the test, finding that like its predecessor, the 7280, it puts form above function -- which'll no doubt suit some people just fine. According to MobileBurn, the 7380 actually weighs more than Nokia claims, although at 90g (3.2oz), it's still pretty lightweight -- measurements come in at 118 x 30 x 20mm (4.6 x 1.2 x .8-inches). Despite the size, the 7380 still manages to pack a 2-megapixel digital camera, which appears best suited to taking pictures outdoors (like every CMOS cameraphone camera, right?), as well as MP3, AAC, and M4A playback, although the meager 52MB of internal memory cuts the fun right out of there. MobileBurn did find, however, that contrary to other reports, the 7280 has decent battery, but the biggest practical drawback seems to be the lack of a keypad, not to mention mediocore call audio.

sony to slap flash memory into new psp this year?

we've heard rumbling of sony plans to add storage to a new (possibly smaller)version of their psp ,starting with 50gb hdd rumors a year ago,but now we're hearing of a possible deal between sony and samsung to add 8gb of flash memory to the portable.According to"market sources",sony has been pressuring samsung to lower nand flash prices by toying around with microdrive, but they're really digging on those low-power flash chips and hope to cram 8gb worth into a new psp due the second half of this year--if all this is to be believed,of course.it all sounds rather similar to some sony/samsung 8gb dealings that went down last year that we assumed were linked to an ipod competitor in the works, which maybe is still a fair assumption.we sure wouldnt mind a bit of built -im storage in the already media-centric psp , espicially since umds are sort of drying up, let's just hope they hope they can get over this memory stick addiction and do it on the cheap --and soon.
